Sam Shepard’s Heartless, Starring Gary Cole, Begins Performances Off-Broadway

The world premiere of Sam Shepard’s Heartless begins performances August 7 at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center, starring Gary Cole and Julianne Nicholson. Directed by Daniel Aukin, the Signature Theatre Company production opens officially on August 27, and will play a limited engagement through September 16 at off-Broadway’s Irene Diamond Stage.

In addition to Cole as Roscoe and Nicholson as Sally, the production also stars two-time Tony nominee Lois Smith as Mable, Jenny Bacon as Lucy and Betty Gilpin as Elizabeth. Heartless is the story of Sally (Nicholson), who lives with her mysterious family in a cavernous home overlooking Los Angeles. When a visitor arrives, Sally’s dark secrets threaten to come into the light.

The Heartless design team includes scenic designer Eugene Lee, costume designer Kaye Voyce, lighting designer Tyler Micoleau and sound designer Eric Shimelonis.
